ERIC BURDON AND HIS WILD NEW BAND OF ANIMALS INVADES NYC…

ALBERTA CROSS TO OPEN BOTH SHOWS AT CITY WINERY NYC AUGUST 8th & 9th

July 27, 2016 – As was recently announced, after selling out two nights at City Winery NYC in October, Eric Burdon and his Wild New Band of Animals have added two more dates – August 8th and 9th – and will welcome Alberta Cross to open both performances.

Eric Burdon first met Alberta Cross in 2013, through John Varvatos, while promoting his latest album “‘Til Your River Runs Dry,” with a special performance at Varvatos’ store in New York City.  Eric was so impressed with the band that he invited them to open his Hammerstein Ballroom show soon after and he kept in touch with them through the years. Alberta Cross recently released their self-titled album on Dine Alone Records.

These City Winery NYC performances present the opportunity for Eric and Alberta Cross to share a stage once again.

These two shows are the only chance New Yorker’s will have to see the legendary Eric Burdon, up close and personal, in the intimate setting of City Winery NYC, just ahead of an emotional homecoming this summer when Eric will return to perform in his birthplace, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

One of Rolling Stone Magazine’s 100 Greatest Voices of all time, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Eric Burdon first touched ground in New York in 1964, when he and the Animals rode on the crest of the British Invasion, which included the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Catch Eric Burdon with his wild new band of Animals, featuring guitarist Johnzo West, keyboardist Davey Allen, the horn section of Evan Mackey on trombone, Ruben Salinas on saxophone and the powerful rhythm section of drummer Dustin Koester and Justin Andres on bass, as they perform classic hits by the Animals (“House of the Rising Sun,” “We’ve Got to Get Out of This Place”) ,  War (“Spill the Wine”) and drawn from his decades of solo work (“When I Was Young,” “Monterey” “Bo Diddley Special”), plus, plenty of surprises, including “some songs I’ve always wanted to sing and never got the chance to”.

“Bo Diddley Special” is a track off Burdon’s most recent release, the critically acclaimed “‘Til Your River Runs Dry” (ABKCO). “My latest work on ‘Til Your River Runs Dry’ is certainly some of my most personal,” Burdon offered. “Every song I wrote reflects a real feeling, for the environment, for my wife, my friends, my role models, and some subjects that I avoided for years.”

On his current tour, Burdon and his band go through his catalogue, interspersed with a number of songs he has always wanted to perform, including songs from David Bowie, Randy Newman, Leadbelly, and Ian Dury.

In her Encyclopedia of Rock, Lillian Roxon wrote that “when the hard, raspy voice of Eric Burdon hit the airwaves with ‘The House of the Rising Sun.’ That was when America knew the English meant business. With Eric up there on the charts, they knew that the British invasion was for real…

Witness for yourself, “the explosive vocal energy…” and “sexy, psychedelic funk” (Aquarian Weekly) of the man cited by Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith and Iggy Pop as one of their prime influences. Don’t Let THIS Be Misunderstood, today, Eric Burdon, his voice as powerful and commanding as ever, “lives up to his legend.” (Illinois Entertainer.)

Join Eric Burdon and Alberta Cross for these special appearances at City Winery NYC on August 8th and 9th and catch both acts before their European dates later in the month.  Find more information on the shows and purchase tickets here.
