QUIET LIFE ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM ‘FOGGY’ OUT APRIL 8, PRODUCED BY SCOTT MCMICKEN (DR. DOG)

“Slow down…you oughta slow down. This is a small town, but we can settle in here,” implores Sean W. Spellman in the chorus of the title track to Quiet Life’s new album, ‘FOGGY,’ out April 8 on Strange Light Records.

By the end of the song, that enticing proposition seems hard to resist. Written over a lazy summer on the coast of Rhode Island, ‘FOGGY’ drifts between verse and chorus with the steady rhythm of a swinging hammock, seemingly content to keep swaying along forever.

Produced by Dr. Dog frontman Scott McMicken during a hot and hazy July recording session at Mt. Slippery Studios in Clifton Heights, PA, much of the musical and lyrical inspiration behind ‘FOGGY’ was a product of its environment. “I really think the heat had something to do with the kind of record we made,” says Spellman. “We were in a daze the whole time. ‘Foggy’ just seemed like the perfect title track.”

“When I wrote most of the songs for the album, I was living in a small beach cottage. I was sort of socially isolated, but I was getting out everyday, exploring and observing the New England summer, trying to write new music,” says Spellman, describing the story behind the album’s first single, “Lost in the Light.”

“There was a kid on my street who was young, a teenager, and I saw him going out one evening. When he was pulling out of his driveway, I thought about what that feeling was like for him. I remembered how great it was, that new sense of freedom at that age, when things are so new and unpredictable.”

That inspiring sense of optimism and adventure-seeking runs through much of Quiet Life’s music. A nomadic group with no real hometown, Quiet Life’s core consists of brothers Sean and Ryan Spellman, who are joined by a rotating cast of like-minded musicians as they tour extensively through the US, all in a forest green Ford van fueled by used vegetable oil.

On ‘FOGGY,’ the Spellman brothers are backed by McMicken, who served as a band member for the recording, contributing vocals, bass, guitar, piano, and percussion throughout the album, along with Thor Jensen (guitar) and Phillipe Bronchtein (keys).

Described as “charming roots-rockers” by Rolling Stone and “countrified, bluesy, rocking folk” by Esquire, Quiet Life’s constantly-evolving sound can be hard to pin down.

“I’d like to think that our sound is always changing,” says Spellman. “Having Scott as a band member for the sessions really put us in another dimension. He pushed us to experiment more, and encouraged us to explore any strange or non-traditional ideas we had. He has a true talent for bringing the best most positive form of creativity out of people.”

Quiet Life will launch a national tour in April, with more dates TBA soon.
