Chronicle Books Announce the October 2005 Publication of "This book is a presentation of postcards the boys have sent me over the years," said Ringo, "and we are lucky to have these postcards, because it was such a surprise to me to find them and we only have them because one of my secretaries decided to put them in a box and keep them. Now I have them and I hope you have as much joy as I did seeing them. What's incredible about them is that some are actual art pieces that would only ever have been sent to Ringo." Postcards From the Boys will feature exact duplicates of 53 postcards sent by John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison to Ringo Starr. The postcards are complete with the occasional drawing, and depict both the spontaneous wit and art of The Beatles. Each side of every postcard occupies an individual page, including revealing text from Ringo explaining the meaning behind each card and further documenting the corresponding moments of his life. For example, next to a postcard from Paul (and then girlfriend Jane Asher) sent from Rishikesh Ringo writes: "There was so much good music in Rishikesh. A lot of the guys wrote some good songs there - if nothing else, that was well worth it. In many ways it was also our first experience of being left alone, although the press caught up with us and photographed us leaving. But we did have plenty of time on our own. The bathroom was full of scorpions - these are just flash memories - you had to make a lot of noise before you went in. And that was that. I'm still glad I went and feel so blessed I met the Maharishi - he gave me a mantra that no-one can take away and I still use it." About another card, from John and Yoko, sent to Ringo in Halsam Terrace in Los Angeles, he explains: "I'm in Halsam Terrace now so it had to be from 74, 75 through 78. All these houses, all these homes. I was California Dreaming. At 2am, because LA closed down at that time of night, you could hear all the traffic coming to my house. There was a party every night. John Bonham would always get a bee in his bonnet. Whenever he was in LA, he would drive up to my house, grab me and throw me in the pool." All of Ringo's royalties from the book will go to the Lotus Foundation Charity. Postcards From the Boys was originally available only as a limited edition by Genesis Books, and will now be made widely available in hardback and paperback on Chronicle Books.
