“The songs of D.C. alternative folk group Vandaveer, led by Mark Charles Heidinger, conjure colorful, familiar worlds that hit right at the heart” – NPR

‘Vandaveer’s most seamlessly constructed pop portfolio yet…(it) opens in a psychedelic haze….quickly dovetails into Heidinger’s luminous folk sensibility, his typically blissful harmonizing with Guerin and the deep melodic hooks…pure pop pride, a catalyst that sets The Wild Mercury into a spin that seldom subsides.”

August 22, 2016 – VANDAVEER, the song-singing, record-making, globetrotting project penned and put forth by Kentucky-based tunesmith Mark Charles Heidinger featuring songbird extraordinaire, Rose Guerin, will be releasing a 3-song EP, Love Is Melancholy, in October 2016. Love Is Melancholy is a compendium piece of sorts to their latest LP, comprising tracks written and recorded during The Wild Mercury studio sessions. For Vandaveer, the story and the storytelling continue—at once vibrant and overcast, tenuous and resolute, sun-kissed and lovelorn.

The band will be setting out on tour in advance of the release, playing club shows as well as stops at AmericanaFest and MidPoint Music Festival in Nashville and Cincinnati, respectively.

For the first time in their career, Vandaveer are touring and performing live as a full band, with infectious dynamism. These days Mark and Rose are joined by a trio of gifted Kentuckians and long-time collaborators—masterful multi-instrumentalists J. Tom Hnatow and Justin Craig and Robby Cosenza on drums. It was with this unit that Vandaveer entered the studio once again to begin work on LP #5, the band’s first for Sony/RED imprint WhiteSpace Records. What emerged—2016’s The Wild Mercury—is musical alchemy. These are songs fully realized; this is Vandaveer fully formed.

Recent tour highlights include numerous sold out shows across the country, C3’s inaugural Landmark Music Festival on the National Mall, and a triumphant appearance at Ringo Starr’s Peace & Love celebration at Capitol Records this past summer with the man himself.

The Fall tour will kick-off in Lexington, Kentucky, the band’s de facto backyard. In 2015, after 1000+ tour dates and more than a decade in DC, Heidinger relocated to Louisville, effectively establishing the commonwealth as Vandaveer’s new home base and headquarters.
