VetsAid Selects First Round of Veteran Charities to Benefit from Concert

Applications now open for smaller nonprofit organizations serving the nation’s wounded, ill and injured veterans

(Washington, DC)  VetsAid, the second annual concert to support veterans and their families sponsored by Joe Walsh, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee and multi GRAMMY Award recipient, announces the following organizations as charitable partners that will benefit from this year’s November 11 concert: Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Sentinels of Freedom, Warrior Canine Connection, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), Semper Fi Fund, Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, Stop Soldier Suicide, Operation Mend, and Hire Heroes USA.

Providing support to organizations that care for the nation’s military wounded, ill and injured is deeply personal to Walsh, a Gold Star survivor whose father died while on active duty on Okinawa, Japan when Walsh was 20 months old. “Even after more than 16 years of war, I don’t think the public really understands the challenges military families face and what it’s like to come home”, says Walsh about the ongoing battles our troops are currently engaged in overseas including Afghanistan. “If the public were more aware, there would be much more help available to them. Meanwhile, there are some great nonprofits that help veterans and their families. Last year was great and so successful, I knew we had to do it again.”

The 2017 event was attended by more than 7,000 with more than $400,000 donated and distributed to nonprofits. Because of last year’s success and an increase in venue capacity – the Tacoma Dome is the 4th largest indoor venue in the country – organizers are expecting this year’s event to be larger. See highlights from the 2017 event here.

With assistance from industry experts, Walsh and leaders of VetsAid reviewed numerous organizations before selecting the initial nine veteran- and caregiver-focused charities.

“VetsAid remains committed to highest standards in program effectiveness, positive and measurable outcomes, as well as fiscal transparency when selecting the nonprofit organizations,” says Chris Ford, CEO of the National Association of Veteran-Serving Organizations, the organization assisting the selection process. “Each of these organizations deliver evidence-based, high-impact programs that have proven to positively impact the lives of military families.”

The November 11 show, to benefit VetsAid, an IRS-recognized nonprofit organization, will feature full set performances by Walsh, Don Henley, James Taylor, Chris Stapleton and HAIM. Tickets are on sale now.

If you are an IRS-recognized nonprofit that supports wounded, ill and injured veterans and/or families of the fallen and are interested in applying for a VetsAid grant, please go to VetsAid.org for information and to access the application form.
